´Only skindeep´ or  ´ in the eye of the beholder´ ?

The aim of the study is not to answer the question of what beauty is or where precisely it can be found. The sole purpose in drafting the questionnaire is that ´the B word´ indicates an experience common to almost everyone. For many, it is an experience that gives a certain kind of energy, whether in the form of irresistible attractiveness, or awe-inspiring stillness.

Perhaps the phenomenon of beauty is best described using the metaphor of an energy field. Take terrestrial magnetic fields: it not particularly useful to ask whether the magnetism is located in the North Pole or the South Pole; that the magnetic force is simply a fact, and we just have to accept it. The same goes for beauty.
